  • Hours: 22 hours per week
    • Wednesday: 08:30 - 16:30 (30-minute lunch)
    • Thursday: 08:30 - 16:30 (30-minute lunch)
    • Friday: 08:30 - 16:00 (30-minute lunch)
  • Salary:
    • PAYE: £13.47 per hour
    • Umbrella: £17.13 per hour

As a Licensing Support Officer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the licensing section during a period of increased workload in Cardiff. This role involves processing taxi driver licensing applications, handling customer queries, and ensuring compliance with licensing regulations. What You’ll Do:
  • Process and determine licence, permit, and registration applications for the licensing section.
  • Assess applicants’ suitability to ensure public protection.
  • Respond to routine and complex queries via face-to-face interactions, email, and occasional phone calls.
  • Process payments, issue receipts, and record transactions accurately.
  • Maintain computer-based and paper record systems using general and specialist software.
  • Provide guidance and familiarisation training to colleagues as needed.
  • Stay updated on licensing legislation, guidance, and procedures, ensuring documentation and databases are current.
  • Collate and present statistical data to support performance monitoring and service improvement.
  • Manage incoming and outgoing post, ensuring correct allocation.
  • Coordinate and invigilate Knowledge Tests for prospective Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Vehicle drivers, including marking scripts.
  • Participate in out-of-hours or emergency response arrangements as required.

  • Essential:
    • Strong communication skills for face-to-face, email, and occasional telephone interactions.
    • Experience using Microsoft Office programs (e.g., Word, Excel).
    • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
    • Strong organisational skills to manage records and process applications accurately.
    • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to safeguarding, health and safety, and data protection principles.
    • Willingness to participate in training and stay updated on licensing regulations.
    • Flexibility to work occasional out-of-hours or emergency arrangements.
  • Desirable:
    • Experience in licensing, customer service, or administrative roles.
    • Familiarity with financial procedures or payment processing.
    • Knowledge of GDPR and data management practices.
    • Experience using specialist software or managing databases.
