Job Title: General Labourer/Assistant Gardener

About the Role:
Network Recruitment Wales is thrilled to offer an exciting opportunity for three enthusiastic General Labourers/Assistant Gardeners to join a dedicated team in Merthyr Tydfil. This temporary role, starting 23 June 2025, involves maintaining and enhancing public parks and green spaces, ensuring they remain vibrant and welcoming for the community. Reporting to a Team Leader or Charge Hand, you’ll carry out a range of horticultural and grounds maintenance tasks with minimal supervision, using your initiative to deliver top-quality results.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform grounds maintenance, including grass cutting (using pedestrian/ride-on mowers), strimming, hedge cutting, and leaf blowing.
  • Maintain fine turf and playing surfaces, including marking football fields.
  • Undertake soil cultivation, weeding, mulching, pruning, planting, and seasonal bedding.
  • Ensure tools, equipment, and machinery are maintained, reporting any defects promptly.
  • Carry out litter picking, bin emptying, and support the arboriculture team when required.
  • Drive vehicles and pull trailers (with appropriate qualifications).
  • Adhere to Health & Safety regulations to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Support other departments, such as Waste, Highways, Street Cleansing, or Cemeteries, as needed.
  • Contribute to achieving quality accreditation for local parks and maintaining high standards across green spaces.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Qualifications: Minimum Level 2 City & Guilds or equivalent in horticulture or a related field.
  • Experience: Confident in performing varied gardening duties with minimal supervision and strong initiative.
  • Skills: Proficient in using hand tools (strimmers, hedge cutters, blowers) and maintaining equipment.
  • Licence: Must hold a valid driving licence.
  • Flexibility: Willing to work across various departments as priorities require.
  • Commitment: Knowledge of Health & Safety practices and a preference for eco-friendly methods (avoiding chemicals/pesticides).

  • Eligible to work in the UK.
  • Provide a Criminal Convictions Declaration and Confidentiality Agreement.
