Job Description

KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant

Could you help older primary pupils build confidence before the pressure of Year 6 assessments kicks in? Are you looking for a classroom role that gives you strong KS2 experience before moving into teacher training?

*** KS2 Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 to July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Primary school based in the Ward of Selly Oak
*** Support across the national curriculum in preparation for SATs exams

The Role:
Support KS2 pupils across the national curriculum, with a clear focus on preparing them for SATs. You will work with individuals and small groups to strengthen reading, SPaG, Maths, and wider curriculum understanding, while reinforcing class learning and feeding back clearly to teachers on progress. The statutory KS2 tests in 2027 are timetabled from Monday 10 May to Thursday 13 May 2027, and KS2 covers the wider primary curriculum across core and foundation subjects.

The Candidate:
You are organised, encouraging, and able to explain ideas clearly to older primary pupils. You want meaningful classroom experience, enjoy helping children build confidence in their learning, and are keen to develop the practical skills needed for a future in teaching. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing, and learning activities.

Requirements
• Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
• Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
• Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
• Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This primary school based in the Ward of Selly Oak offers the chance to build valuable KS2 experience in a setting where targeted support, steady routines, and pupil progress matter. You will work closely with teaching staff in a role that gives you direct exposure to intervention work, day-to-day classroom practice, and the support strategies schools use to help pupils prepare confidently for statutory assessment. National curriculum guidance confirms that KS2 pupils are assessed in Year 6 through national tests in English reading, maths, and grammar, punctuation and spelling.
