Job Description

Teaching Assistant

Can you be the kind of classroom support that helps pupils stay on track and make real progress? Are you looking for a KS2 role that gives you practical primary experience before moving further into education?

*** Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Selly Oak
*** 1:1, small group and general classroom support (KS2)

The Role:
Support KS2 pupils through a blend of 1:1 help, small-group work, and general classroom support. You will reinforce learning in core subjects, keep pupils engaged during lessons, prepare simple resources, and work alongside the class teacher to support progress. Teaching assistants support teachers in the classroom and help children with reading, writing and learning activities.

The Candidate:
You are reliable, clear in the way you communicate, and comfortable working with older primary pupils. You enjoy helping children build confidence with their learning, you can adapt to the pace of a busy classroom, and you want school-based experience that gives you a strong foundation for a future in teaching. Primary teachers work with children aged 3 to 11 and support their educational, social and emotional development, which makes KS2 experience especially useful for that route.

Requirements
  • Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
  • Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
  • Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
  • Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
  • Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher and build a long-term career in education.

The School:
This ‘Good’ primary school in Selly Oak offers the chance to build valuable KS2 experience in a setting where structure, teamwork, and pupil progress matter. You will join a staff team that values targeted support and consistent classroom practice, giving you day-to-day exposure to how effective primary support helps children stay engaged and move forward with their learning. Work with children can be eligible for an Enhanced DBS check in the child workforce, with some roles also eligible for barred list checks depending on the duties involved.
