Job Description
Are you looking to build meaningful primary SEN experience before moving into teacher training, educational psychology, or clinical psychology? Could you provide calm, focused 1:1 support that helps a pupil with autism feel secure, engaged, and ready to learn?
*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 – July 2027
*** £85 - £105 per day
*** Primary school, Central Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 support for a pupil with Autism
The Role:
Provide dedicated 1:1 support for a pupil with autism across the school day. You will help the pupil access learning, follow routines, manage transitions, stay engaged in class, and build confidence, while feeding back clearly to the class teacher and SENCO. SEN support in schools follows a graduated approach built around identifying needs, putting provision in place, and reviewing impact.
The Candidate:
You are patient, observant, and able to build trust through consistency and clear communication. You want practical school-based experience, you can stay calm in a busy primary setting, and you are keen to support a child with additional needs in a way that has a visible impact. This role would suit a graduate who wants relevant SEN experience before progressing into teaching or psychology-related training.
Requirements
- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Clear and confident verbal and written communication.
- Enhanced DBS – Must hold or be willing to obtain an Enhanced DBS certificate.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in supporting pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Career Goals – A desire to train as a teacher or pursue a career in educational or clinical psychology.
The School:
This primary school in Central Wolverhampton offers the chance to build valuable experience in an inclusive setting where pupil support and consistency matter. You will work closely with teaching staff and the SENCO in a role that gives you direct exposure to day-to-day SEND provision, structured support, and the practical strategies schools use to help pupils access learning. National Careers guidance notes that SEN teaching assistants support teachers to help children with disabilities and special educational needs, while the SEND framework places clear expectations on schools to deliver effective support and review its impact.
