Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant

Do you want a full academic year in a high-performing primary school where you build confidence across EYFS, KS1 or KS2 before teacher training?

*** Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** September 2026 until July 2027
*** £83 - £102 per day
*** ‘Outstanding’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** Classroom support in either EYFS, KS1 or KS2

The Role:
You will support teaching and learning across one phase, EYFS, KS1, or KS2, depending on where the school needs you most. You will work alongside the class teacher to keep pupils learning well, staying on task, and meeting expected standards. In the classroom, you will scaffold learning through modelling, chunking instructions, guided practice, and quick checks for understanding. You will support pupils who need extra help to access the lesson, including those with SEND, lower prior attainment, or gaps in core skills. You will also run short 1:1 and small group sessions when needed, keeping them linked to class objectives so progress is clear and trackable.

If you are placed in EYFS, you will support early language, early phonics foundations, fine motor development, and learning behaviours through structured routines and purposeful play, aligned to the EYFS statutory framework. If you are placed in KS1 or KS2, you will support reading, writing, and maths in line with national curriculum expectations, helping pupils practise key skills with high repetition and clear feedback. Safeguarding is part of your day, not an extra. You will follow school policies, report concerns, and work professionally at all times.

The Candidate:
You bring calm energy, clear communication, and consistency. You take direction well, act on feedback, and keep routines tight so pupils feel safe and ready to learn. You want meaningful school experience ahead of teacher training.

  • Degree at 2:2 or above in any subject
  • Strong literacy and numeracy, confident supporting pupils in class across primary ages
  • Comfortable supporting learning 1:1 and in small groups when required
  • Experience with children through tutoring, mentoring, coaching, youth work, camps, or volunteering is desirable
  • Professional approach to safeguarding, confidentiality, and behaviour expectations
  • Enhanced DBS required, plus right to work checks, references, and standard school vetting

The School:
You will join an ‘Outstanding’ primary school in Wolverhampton with high expectations for behaviour, learning, and pupil outcomes. The school runs clear routines and consistent classroom practices, so you know what good support looks like and you can improve fast. Staff plan support around pupil need, using targeted in-class strategies and structured intervention where required, so your work fits into a clear system rather than being added on randomly. You will get guidance on your class focus, key pupils, and day-to-day priorities from the start, with a team approach that helps you settle quickly and make impact. Ofsted inspection reporting has moved away from single headline grades for new inspections, so the ‘Outstanding’ label refers to the school’s published outcome where applicable.

Apply Now:
Send your CV to be considered. If shortlisted, you will get a call to confirm your availability for September 2026, your experience with children, and which phase you are most confident supporting. Checks follow, then the school stage is arranged in good time for a September start.

Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
