Job Description
Want a role where steady support changes outcome fast?
Help KS3 and KS4 pupils access learning and build independence.
*** SEN Learning Mentor
*** £80 - £95 per day
*** January 2026 start until July 2026
*** Secondary School, Sandwell
*** 1:1 academic support across the curriculum
The Role:
You will deliver structured 1:1 and small group support that links directly to class teaching. You will break tasks into clear steps, use visuals and now/next prompts, and rehearse routines so transitions and starts are calm. You will run short sessions that target reading fluency, writing structure and number skills, then apply those gains to live subject work in English, maths, science and humanities. You will pre-teach key vocabulary, model planning and answer structures, and build recall through retrieval and timed practice. You will keep brief notes after each session, update intervention trackers, and agree next actions with class teachers, Heads of Year and the SENCO. You will follow behaviour and safeguarding procedures, support punctuality and equipment checks, and keep expectations consistent across lessons and unstructured times.
The Candidate & Requirements:
You are calm, organised and clear in your communication. You act on feedback quickly and help pupils move towards independence.
- Degree, 2:2 or above in any subject.
• Communication, confident written and spoken English.
• Enhanced DBS, held already or willingness to obtain.
• Desire to work in education/with children, strong interest in SEN and wellbeing.
• Experience working with children, relevant experience is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This Sandwell secondary maintains purposeful classrooms through simple, consistent routines. Departments share sequenced schemes, common assessments and model responses, so your intervention dovetails with teaching. Reading is supported through guided practice and vocabulary work. Maths is taught in small, connected steps with regular low-stakes checks to spot gaps early. The inclusion team runs plan–do–review cycles and provides practical tools such as visuals, timers and checklists. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with precise next moves, giving you the conditions to evidence progress and build a strong portfolio for Educational Psychology or ITT routes.
How to Apply
Apply through the job advert with your CV. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Roles may close early if filled.
Due to the number of applications, only successful applicants will be contacted.
