Job Description
Want hands-on SEN experience that actually grows your practice?
Support pupils with a range of needs through steady routines and smart, tailored intervention.
*** SEN Graduate Teaching Assistant
*** November 2025 start, July 2026 finish
*** £85 - £110 per day
*** ‘Good’ school, North Solihull
*** 1:1 and small group support across a broad spectrum of SEN requirements
What you’ll do:
Work with pupils who have Autism, ADHD, SEMH and speech/language needs. Break tasks into manageable steps, use visual schedules and now/next boards, and scaffold transitions so lessons feel predictable. Run short, evidence-informed sessions for literacy, numeracy and social communication. Capture quick progress notes and agree next actions with class teachers and the SENCO to keep support aligned.
Who you are:
Calm, reliable and clear in your communication. You follow support plans, hold consistent boundaries, and build trust without over-prompting. You’re organised, reflective, and ready to tweak approaches from one session to the next.
Requirements
- Degree – 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Strong written and verbal skills.
- Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Genuine interest in SEN, behaviour and pupil wellbeing.
- Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (SEN support, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.
The School:
This ‘Good’ North Solihull school serves a diverse community and keeps classrooms calm through simple, consistent routines. Inclusion is embedded: plan–do–review cycles run termly; ready-made visual supports and regulation spaces are in place; and the SEN team meets weekly to refine strategies. Reading is prioritised with systematic phonics and daily guided reading, while maths follows a small-steps approach with regular retrieval and practical models. You’ll receive a structured induction, access to shared intervention packs, and brief coaching drop-ins that translate into next-day actions—ideal conditions to make impact quickly and build a strong portfolio for Educational Psychology or initial teacher training routes.
How to Apply
Email your CV and note your November availability and DBS status (include two referees if possible). Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief phone screen and an in-school interview/observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.
Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
