Interim Deputy Headteacher – Behaviour, Attitudes and Attendance – Secondary School
This dynamic secondary school in Birmingham is seeking an experienced Interim Deputy Headteacher to take strategic responsibility for behaviour, attitudes, and attendance. This is a high-impact leadership role within a school led by an outstanding Headteacher, supported by a strong and established middle leadership team, and benefiting from excellent facilities and a positive learning environment.

This role requires a Deputy Headteacher with proven experience leading on behaviour and attendance at whole-school level. You will play a key role in maintaining high standards, supporting staff, and ensuring students are fully engaged, supported, and meeting expectations around conduct and attendance. This role requires a Deputy Headteacher who is available to start ASAP pending compliance and references. 

Job Role:
  • Leading whole-school behaviour, attitudes, and attendance strategies
  • Driving sustained improvements in attendance and punctuality
  • Ensuring consistent implementation of behaviour policies across the school
  • Supporting and line managing pastoral leaders and middle leaders
  • Using data to identify trends, target interventions, and measure impact
  • Working closely with the Headteacher and SLT on whole-school priorities
  • Liaising with parents, external agencies, and local authorities where required
  • Contributing to safeguarding, inclusion, and student wellbeing strategies
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Previous experience as a Deputy Headteacher in a secondary school
  • A strong track record of successfully improving behaviour and attendance
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills
  • The ability to influence, challenge, and support staff effectively
  • Experience working closely with pastoral and inclusion teams
  • A calm, consistent, and solution-focused leadership approach
