About the School
An independent specialist school in Kingston Upon Thames is seeking a compassionate and motivated Psychology, Autism & Speech and Language Support Assistant to join their expert team. The school supports pupils with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs (SLCN), Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), ADHD, and additional SEN needs.
As part of a small, specialist school community, you will work closely with teachers, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists, and other specialists to deliver highly personalised learning and therapeutic interventions. The school emphasises early intervention, communication development, and building confidence and independence in every pupil.
This role is ideal for graduates or aspiring practitioners eager to gain hands-on experience in a specialist SEN setting.
Role and Responsibilities
- Deliver targeted 1:1 and small-group interventions supporting speech, language, and communication
- Implement structured, visual, and routine-based strategies to support pupils with autism and additional needs
- Assist teachers in adapting lessons to meet EHCP and SEN support plans
- Collaborate with therapists, SENCO, and teachers to implement evidence-based approaches
- Support pupils’ emotional regulation, social skills, and confidence building
- Track and monitor pupil progress and engagement
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment
- Degree in Psychology, Education, Speech Sciences, Child Development, or a related field (or currently studying)
- Passion for supporting children with speech, language, and SEN needs
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills
- Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- Experience with children or young people (school-based, tutoring, mentoring, or care) desirable but not essential
- Speech and Language Therapy
- Educational or Clinical Psychology
- Occupational Therapy
- Teaching or SEN Teaching
- Child and Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS)
- Youth Work or Pastoral Support
