Job Description
Join Our Team as a Waste Import Sampler at Thames Water.
The Waste Imports Sampler is responsible for monitoring and sampling waste discharges into Sewage Treatment Works (STWs) and overseeing internal sludge movements within a defined catchment area.
This vital role ensures full compliance with waste acceptance requirements, environmental standards, and health & safety regulations.

What you will be doing as a Waste Import Sampler
Precision Sampling & Testing
- Monitor in-person waste discharges and sludge transfers
- Collect waste samples at designated sites within the catchment area
- Prepare, label, and document samples accurately
- Ensure timely submission of samples to the laboratory
- Verify waste customer and subcontractor documentation
- Maintain accurate, detailed records of sampling and inspections
- Support compliance with all regulatory and environmental requirements
- Conduct regular health, safety, and environmental audits
- Identify and report non-compliance issues
- Track and confirm completion of corrective actions
- Collaborate with site operators, laboratories, and waste teams
- Provide feedback to support continuous process improvement
- Manage customer interactions professionally and confidently
- Experience in waste management, environmental services, or water industry operations (preferred)
- Knowledge of sampling techniques, waste acceptance criteria, and environmental compliance
- Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping accuracy
- Confident communication and interpersonal skills
- Understanding of health, safety, and environmental regulations
- Ability to work independently and manage your time across multiple sites
- Full UK driving licence (required for travel within the catchment area) a company van and a fuel card will be provided.
- Offering a salary up to £32,000 per annum depending on skills and experience
- Annual Leave - 24 days holiday per year, increasing to 28 with the length of service. (plus bank holidays)
- Performance-related pay plan directly linked to company performance measures and targets.
