Job Description
As a Senior Project Manager you will:
- Be a client-side Senior Project Manager responsible for the investment from promotion of the business need, through solution definition, design, procurement, construction, commissioning and completion.
- Take overall accountability for project schedule, cost and quality and leading the project team to meet project objectives.
- Adeptly manage a portfolio of projects at different stages of their lifecycle as part of a wider programme of delivery across the Thames Valley.
- Establish a project health and safety culture and lead with a health and safety mindset.
- Work collaboratively with our external supply chain and driving contractor performance.
- Support the definition of solutions to meet the project objectives and be responsible for preparing a clear business case and promoting best value proposals to business endorsement.
- Ensure effective liaison with the relevant authorities, and internal and external stakeholders, to ensure smooth running and timely project delivery.
- Contribute to steering project-wide continuous improvement and delivering against stretching targets.
- Commercially manage all contract matters to achieve the optimal outcome for Thames Water.
- Take accountability for compliance throughout the projects' lifecycles, preparing and promoting clear business cases to maintain governance, and ultimately overseeing smooth transition of the project output into the operational business.
- Lead people to build project delivery capability within the overall team and the role can be adapted to those wishing to line manage and to those that would prefer a less formal role in mentoring others.
What you should bring to the roleTo thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need is:
- Demonstrable track record of successfully delivering complex projects for a client organisation in the built environment within a regulated industry.
- An engineering or other relevant degree.
- A structured, logical and disciplined approach to Project Management with well-honed skills for managing cost, schedule, risk and quality.
- A business administration or project management qualification.
- Experience, aptitude and appetite for leading cross functional project teams and influencing others.
- Demonstrable knowledge in the application of Health & Safety legislation to projects in the built environment, including the Construction Design & Management Regulations.
- A breadth of experience across the full project lifecycle including solution development & design oversight, early contractor engagement, procurement, governance, obtaining of requisite consents (land, planning etc.), construction delivery and handover.
- Demonstrable capability in planning and executing first class stakeholder engagement across a range of internal and external people and organisations.
- Demonstrable capability in risk-based and analytical decision-making.
- Previous experience in the Water industry.
- Chartered Project Professional.
- Formal mentor role for other prospective professionals
- Substantial experience in a similar role.
- Competitive salary from £67,000 to £75,000 per annum
- 26 days holiday per year increasing to 30 with the length of service (plus bank holidays)
