THE ROLE

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Produce electrical design calculations, drawings and specifications for LV power, lighting, fire alarm, security and data/communications systems across healthcare, education, commercial and industrial projects
  • Develop detailed design packages using CAD and BIM (Revit MEP) through all RIBA stages
  • Carry out electrical load calculations, cable sizing and basic protection coordination studies
  • Incorporate low carbon electrical solutions including EV infrastructure, PV systems and smart building technology into designs
  • Liaise with architects, structural engineers and other design team members to coordinate electrical services
  • Attend design team and client meetings, contributing technical input and supporting project delivery
  • Assist in the preparation of tender documentation, schedules of equipment and specifications
  • Support senior engineers on complex projects and take ownership of smaller schemes independently
  • Maintain awareness of current Building Regulations, IET Wiring Regulations, and relevant industry standards and best practice
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status with structured support, mentorship and CPD funding
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS
  • MEng or BEng degree in Electrical Engineering or Building Services Engineering
  • 2–5 years' experience in electrical building services design
  • Experience with LV power, lighting, and/or fire alarm/security systems
  • Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)
  • Working knowledge of BIM/Revit MEP (or willingness to learn)
  • Understanding of IET Wiring Regulations (BS 7671) and Building Regulations
  • Strong technical and communication skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
DESIRABLE REQUIREMENTS
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status (CEng)
  • Experience across multiple project sectors (healthcare, education, commercial, industrial)
  • Knowledge of low carbon electrical systems (EV infrastructure, PV, battery storage)
  • Familiarity with electrical design software (Amtech, Dialux, Relux or similar)
