Job Description

Building Physics Team Lead – Bristol

We’re currently supporting a well-established and growing multidisciplinary consultancy in Bristol that’s looking to appoint a Building Physics Team Lead. This is a fantastic opportunity for a technically strong and forward-thinking individual who’s ready to step into a key leadership role, with the chance to shape and grow a Building Physics offering within a collaborative and respected MEP team.

About the Opportunity
This is more than just a technical role – you'll play a central part in expanding the Building Physics function, supporting the wider MEP team, and helping to lead and develop junior engineers. You’ll work on a diverse range of high-profile projects from early-stage concept design through to delivery, all within a dynamic and flexible working environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the delivery of high-quality building physics modelling, including SAP, SBEM, dynamic thermal modelling (Level 5 Part L), thermal comfort studies, daylight/sunlight assessments, and in-use energy simulations
  • Produce and lodge EPCs and BRUKL documentation
  • Advise on design variables to meet performance targets, with a practical understanding of implementation and cost implications
  • Establish and maintain efficient systems for data exchange, quality assurance, and reporting
  • Act as a key technical advisor in meetings with clients, contractors, and design teams
  • Stay abreast of regulations, standards, and emerging technologies
  • Support internal knowledge sharing and cross-team collaboration
  • Play a key role in growing the Building Physics team, including recruitment, mentoring, and leadership
  • Support business development activities and contribute to securing future work
What We’re Looking For
  • A dynamic and confident professional, comfortable working independently and within a team
  • Strong experience with key assessments including:
    • SAP and SBEM
    • Level 5 dynamic simulations
    • TM54, TM52, TM59 and Part O compliance
    • Daylight analysis (DF, VSC, etc.)
    • Commercial EPC production and lodging
  • Strong report writing and communication skills
  • Practical knowledge of low carbon and sustainable design
  • Experience in training or mentoring junior team members
  • Leadership qualities with a collaborative, can-do approach
  • Eligible to work in the UK and fluent in English
  • Willingness to travel for surveys when required
Desirable but Not Essential
  • Experience in residential, commercial, education or leisure sectors
  • Familiarity with thermal bridging assessments
  • Interest in business development, tender writing, or bidding
  • Working toward Chartership or professionally registered
  • Experience with IES, TAS, Design Builder, and general design software (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp, Bluebeam, Microsoft Office)
Qualifications
  • Degree in a built environment-related discipline, ideally with a relevant postgraduate qualification
  • Demonstrable experience delivering building physics assessments in a consultancy setting

Why This Role?
This is a genuinely exciting opportunity to lead and shape a growing Building Physics team within a forward-thinking consultancy. You'll be given the autonomy and support to make an impact, with long-term career progression and a clear path to senior leadership.
