About the role
- We are looking for an Environmental Data Officer to join our client’s Environmental Assessment and Advice Team in North Wales.
- This is a hands on, field focused role where you will spend most of your time monitoring discharges from metal mines across North and Mid Wales. You will collect high quality environmental data in the field and support its organisation and analysis through desk based work.
- The information you gather will contribute to statutory reporting and play an important role in supporting decisions around the sustainable management of natural resources in Wales.
- This role would suit someone who enjoys being outdoors, is physically fit, and is comfortable working in a range of environments including rivers, lakes, and remote locations in all weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Travel across North and Mid Wales to carry out environmental monitoring activities.
- Undertake water sampling from rivers, streams, and other freshwater sites.
- Carry out biological sampling, including invertebrates and diatoms.
- Operate and maintain field equipment to capture accurate environmental data.
- Install, check, and recover monitoring instruments such as sondes and passive samplers.
- Record, organise, and process collected data to support analysis and reporting.
- Liaise with internal teams to ensure data is shared and used effectively.
Essential Requirements
- Valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly between sites.
- Degree or equivalent in environmental science, biology, or a related subject area.
- Confident working in and around water, with strong swimming ability.
- Basic Welsh language skills or willingness to use Welsh in the workplace.
- Comfortable working outdoors in a range of conditions, including remote locations.
- High level of accuracy when capturing and handling data.
- Practical and confident using technical equipment in the field.
- Able to manage workload independently while contributing to a wider team.
